SHUTTLE Barebone System Other Components SA76/V2.0, SA76G2V2/(BK)

Great Little Box, Easy to Setup, Worked. Quiet. However, 2 things to know before buying, (What's this?) Great Little Box, However, Buyers be aware of 2 things:
~only takes a 95W CPU, so the max upgrade on the cpu that you can do so far is an AMD PHENOM II Quad.
~Uses DDR2, way more expensive than DDR3, hard to find good quality 4gb sticks, so i opted for 2gb sticks each.
Also, uses only 800 Mhz DDR2.

If a 4GB RAM, PHENOM II Quad is good enough for your usage, this box won't disappoint.

For my Wife, this little thing will box coupled with Windows 7 HP 64bit will be perfect.
The fastest and smallest AMD Computer money can buy, (What's this?) For the past 2 years I had a SA76G2 VERSION ONE. It had an AMD Phenom 1 Quad Core 2.6 ghz processor which uses 95 watt AM2 processor socket with 8 gigs of ram and I ran perfectly.

But I wanted more. The only way to use the new AMD Phenom II X6 Six-Core Processor 1090T (3.2GHz) AM3 is to buy THE ALMOST IDENTICAL SA76G2-V2 which looks exactly the same and has almost the same name but has the ability to use the faster and newer Phenom 2 AM2+ or AM3 processors. The V1 only accepted Phenom 1 because you could only use a 95 watt processor in it like the Phenom 1 or Athlon in the AM2 socket.

I now have AMD Phenom II X6 Six-Core Processor 1090T (3.2GHz) inside the SA76G2-V2. All they did was add the ability to use AM2+ and AM3 which require 125 watt socket. Also the version 2 uses am American Megatrends bios unlike version one which used Phoenix.

I used the same Ram, PCI express cards and optical drives from my version one model however I did get an OCZ SSD as my boot drive and wow it is fast, but you can read my review of that on another page.

With custom bios timing settings you can use DDR3 ram in it but I already had the max 8 in DDR2 so I did not buy new ram just a new barebone and processor. You can use ANY DDR2 ram OF ANY SPEED not just the 800 mhz ram. And remember DDR2 800 is not 800 mhz it is 400 mhz double data rate. That is what DDR stands for DOUBLE DATA RATE.

I have been using and building AMD Shuttle computers for 12 years now and I sad to say that the SA76G2-V2 is the only AMD barebone they make anymore and the bios is not overclockable. However you can download from the AMD site AMD Overdrive which will overclock your processor and RAM with software as opposed to changing your timings in the bios which for the SA76G2-V2 are unchangeable.

With 6 cores and an SSD boot drive this thing boots in a matter of seconds.
Nice small form factor system, Nice and small, but easy to work on. Has two 3.5 inch drive bays and 3 SATA ports. I use a dual 2.5 inch drive adapter in one bay, so I can use 2 laptop SSD drives and one 3.5 inch drive. I use an IDE CD/DVD burner to free up the extra SATA port. Mine came with a 250 watt power supply, which was noisier than I expected. Upgraded to a 300 watt power supply and it helped. The ICE cooling system is much better than I expected. It was easy to install on the processor and it works well. I got an OEM Phenom II X2 3.1ghz processor rated at 80w TDP that came with no heatsink or fan. The ICE cooling system did the trick. This system supports up to a 95w TDP processor, so I could have gone with a triple core. It has two 240 pin DDR2 slots. I added two PC2 6400 2gb memory modules for a total of 4gb. I thought about upgrading it to 8gb, but the 4gb DDR2 memory modules are kind of expensive. If you want 8gb of memory, I suggest finding another system that supports DDR3 memory instead.
